Walnut Creek Police Explorer Post 600

The Walnut Creek Police Explorer program is a community service program where young people have an opportunity to explore the career field of law enforcement and participate in activities of the Police Department. There is an ever-increasing desire of young people to enter or learn about the field of law enforcement and other related careers. A Walnut Creek Explorer Post member is given a variety of responsibilities and they are actively involved in related activities within the Police Department.

Members of this Explorer Post are allowed to participate in work projects, group training sessions, and visits to other law enforcement agencies to acquaint them with the policies, procedures, and principles of the criminal justice system.

An excellent opportunity exists to explore the career field of law enforcement because of the Explorer Post's unique involvement in the activities and training of this department.

SELECTION PROCESS AND BASIC REQUIREMENTS

All candidates will be interviewed to determine their knowledge, ability, attitude, and motivation toward community service. The interview board will consist of at least one staff member of the Explorer Post and the Post Advisor.

Upon successful completion of the interview, a confidential background investigation will be completed to determine any criminal record or indication of moral turpitude. This background investigation will be conducted by the Post Advisor, and be reviewed by the Advisor's supervisor. After satisfactorily completing the background investigation, the applicant's file will be reviewed by the Explorer Post Advisor, at which time the decision regarding membership will be made.

Explorers are required to attend post meetings on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month, and fit the following:

  • Have motivation toward community service
  • Have an interest in the field of law enforcement
  • Be enrolled in high school or a graduate thereof, and have a grade point average of 2.0 or higher
